TLDR: Somewhere on these sites there might be Google Analytics. It probably watches you. But rather it is not, as it is not currently working. The games store some data in online database, mainly connected to game features like saving, statistics etc.
What actually happens
Website (wizardbanished.com)
- Analytics: If Google Analytics is enabled on a page, it collects anonymous/aggregated usage data. Right now it should be off or non-functional.
- Cookies: Only what’s needed (e.g., GA if enabled, or technical cookies for game pages). No dark-pattern tracking.
- Server logs: Standard web-server logs (IP address, user agent, URL, timestamp) may be retained for a limited time for operations and security.
Game services & APIs
- Saves & stats: The games call APIs that store save data and game statistics for in-game features (cloud saves, leaderboards, etc.).
- Abuse prevention: Some endpoints log your IP address to detect misuse (e.g., too many requests) and to keep the service stable.
- Local storage: The games store data in your browser (Unity PlayerPrefs / local storage) to keep saves, settings or identifiers.
Wizard Banished (WB)
- Talking rock: Your messages to the sentient rock may be stored in an online database to improve the rock’s behaviour, even without an account.
- Online profile: If you create one, your save data and chosen player name are stored in the online database. Your player ID functions as your password—keep it secret.
- Leaderboards: Game progress data (e.g., prestige, achievements) may be sent to power “top players” features.
- Bug reports: Using the in-game “report bug” sends your save data, IP address, message, and player name to the database so the issue can be investigated.
- AI replies: Messages to the rock are processed by a third-party AI service (OpenAI) to generate responses. That provider receives your message content and technical info necessary to deliver the service, and handles it under their own privacy policy.
Banished to Forest (BTF)
- Activity logging: The game logs important actions to a database. For this, the game generates a display name and stores it in browser storage (PlayerPrefs/local storage). This identifier lets certain features show to other players what you last did or achieved in-game.
- Winners & highlights: The game logs and may display winners and notable milestones.
Your choices
- Use blockers if you want. GA is off right now. If I ever fix it, it’ll be just to see whether anyone visits or plays
- If you want something deleted, email me your player ID (or enough detail about the report) and I’ll remove it.
